Tips to Avoid Counterfeit Drugs

According to how complicated discussed about counterfeit drug problem, at least some steps we can do to avoid fake drugs, as presented by the Chairman of the Pharmacy Graduate Association of Indonesia, Mohamad Dani Pratomo, the following:

- Tell your doctor if no improvement after taking the drug.

- Purchase drugs only in pharmacies, especially for drugs with a doctor's prescription.

- When receiving the drug, it is recommended to meet directly with the pharmacist to ask for an explanation of the drug. If you need, ask also the pharmacist's phone number so that if there is suspicion / doubt about the drug, you could soon get an explanation.

- Note the integrity of packaging, is still sealed properly or not. Do not accept it if the seal is broken.

- Pay attention to hygiene packs too. This step needs to be given not less counterfeit drugs coming from expired drugs and drugs that have been discarded in the trash and then cleaned again as markers of the expiration date removed or replaced.

- Pay attention to labels that contain information about the drug's name, name of manufacturer, batch code number, expiration date, production date, and registration number which consists of 15 digits (DTL7217206637B1 example), and the marketing authorization number (NIE) of POM.

- Compare prices. If drug prices far cheaper than usual prices for the same product, there's something wrong alert although this can not always be used as a benchmark.

- Annihilate the scrap or expired drug immediately in a way to destroy and damage the packaging, so as not to be used by irresponsible parties.
